Fire Shows Up an Appalling Bunch
of Thirteen Which Come
on Friday

Friday, the 13th, was a day of ill omen for the house at 1313 West Seventh street.  At 3:13 yesterday afternoon an alarm was turned in from box 113, and when the fire wagons arrived on the scene it was found that the fire was in the residence occupied by Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Pierson at 1313 West Seventh St.  After thirteen minutes hard work by the firemen the fire was extinguished.  The loss was approximately $113.  It was believed by the firemen that the fire was started by rats gnawing matches.  How many rats and matches the firemen wouldn't attempt to estimate.  The house was occupied by thirteen persons but none of the apartments were damaged save those of Mr. and Mrs. Pierson.

HOSEMAN CUSSED

    R. N. Nicklin, an emergency hoseman, "cussed" a superior officer, which is contrary to the etiquette of the fire department.  Chief Lips recommended that Nicklin be dropped from the pay roll, Friday, and the commission acted accordingly.

This 1898 Babcock City Service Truck, SN# 76, went into service as Truck D in 1900.  In 1905 Truck D was changed to Truck Co. No. 4.  Truck 4 remained in service until 1916 when it was taken out of service due to manpower shortages caused by the start of the 2-platoon system.
