The Attack on the World Trade Center
New York, New York
September 11, 2001

We, the members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, give our deepest sympathies to our Brothers on the New York Fire Department and Police Department.  Although our true feelings cannot be conveyed in words it can be said that your courage, loyalty and dedication to duty has raised the standard of being a Fireman and Policeman to a level that will never be surpassed.

You are the Hero of the Heroes and the Brave amongst the Brave. You are truly American Heroes in its purest form.  To say that we are proud of you is a  profound understatement; we are overwhelming awed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to each and everyone of you and your families.

God Bless You, and God Bless America.

The Islamic extremist attack on the United States and the brutal murder of three thousand and fifty six men, women and children was an unprecedented event in American history.  Equally unprecedented in American history was the unbelievable heroism of hundreds of New York Firemen, Policemen, Port Authority personnel and numerous other heroes, now know only to God, who charged into the burning World Trade Center for the sole purpose of rescuing other peoples lives.

Equally unprecedented again has been the response of people from all around the world.  Immediately after the attack thousands of people, many of them rescue workers themselves, descended upon the disaster site in New York to help with the rescue.  Thousands more came to attend funerals and memorials and just to show support.  Millions of people from around the world raised money for the families of the victims.  This event has become a world event.

The Los Angeles Fire Department, like so many other departments across the land responded to the disaster in New York.  The incident has become part or our history.

The Heroes of Eleven-September

This is a saga about heroes,
written one infamous day.
About the heroes of Eleven-September.
This tribute to them I pay.

The rode into smoke and fire,
sounding siren and bell.
They arrived at "ground zero"
and charged into the flames of hell.

Hundreds of honored heroes,
the bravest of the brave.
On a perilous mission,
attempting to rescue and save.

Determined and eager they entered,
the towers of death and doom.
For anyone lacking courage,
there wasn't one bit of room.

It was a furnace of flames and fury.
Thousands feeing and running away.
But they entered the crumbling inferno,
and held their ground and stayed.

So dedicated and so valiant.
Standing so fearless and tall.
Sons, brothers, husbands and fathers,
all of them sacrificed all.

Duty, honor and courage,
a valued lesson we learned.
The respect of and entire nation,
These sainted-souls have earned.

From the ashes of death and destruction,
rose a nation united and proud,
saluting her fallen heroes,
and applauding them long and loud.

Tearful prayers rise up to the heaven.
In churches eulogies said.
Their names are called by God Himself-
In paradise - the honor roll read.

The Heroes of Eleven-September,
the world will remember them well.
Now near to their God in heaven,
now far from the flames of  hell.
