A Tour of Duty at Engine 80's
by Stanley E. Halfhill
The FIREMAN'S GRAPEVINE, June 1942

Engine No. 80 is located at Mines Field next to the administration building.  They have a nice bench where the members sit and watch air traffic, which ranges from Cub Trainers and the B-19.  Navy amphibians, army freighters, and fighting air ships for the friendly nations at war are also common sights.
Engine 80 went into service October 16, 1941 on the "B" shift under the command of Captain Leslie "Doc" Riggs.  The quarters at one time was a five room bungalow belonging to the Engineering Department.  A lean-to for the rig was added and presto, a new company was born.  When I was out taking pictures their mascot, a puppy, appropriately called "Contact" was just about the most important member of the crew.
Here is something you would like about 80's they have no box alarms, all telephone.
