IT' A FACT
By BILL GOSS

With the closing of old Engine 19 on North Main Street the longest single assignment of one man in the department's history was concluded.  Firemen Eugene Cremins was appointed to the Los Angeles Fire Department on February 21, 1918.  For his first couple years on the department he chased vacations as it was known in those days when the new men went from station to station filling in for vacationing older men.  On February 18, 1920 he was assigned to Engine 19 on the "A" Platoon and he has been there ever since.  With the closing of the place that was his home on the department for just 2 1/2 months short of 30 years, Gene will be going to Engine 42.
