On July 2, 1940, Engine Company 46 was called to a small cafe fire at 4710 South Vermont Avenue. Fireman Elin Imbs was connecting a supply line to a nearby hydrant when he collapsed and died of a heart attack. Imbs, 60, was survived by his wife and three children.
