RULE 4.
ASSISTANT CHIEF ENGINEER.

SECTION 1. The Assistant Chief Engineer shall devote his whole time and attention to the Fire Department, and shall rank next to the Chief Engineer.

SEC. 2. It shall be the duty of the Assistant Chief Engineer to respond to fires and alarms within the district he may be assigned or summoned by the Chief Engineer.

SEC. 3. In case of sickness or absence of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer will take charge at fires and alarms, and shall have and exercise the duties and powers of the Chief Engineer.

SEC. 4. It shall be the duty of the Assistant Chief Engineer to visit the houses of the Department at least once a week and report the condition of the same to the Chief Engineer, or, in his absence, to the Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
