CHIEF ENGINEER.
Five trumpets crossed, with the bells outward and projecting beyond the mouth-pieces, made of gilt metal, and worn on the front and in the center of cap, and one on each end of collar on the coat.

ASSISTANT CHIEF ENGINEER
Same as above, with the exception that there shall be but three trumpets. Worn the same as above.

CAPTAIN
Same as above with the exception that there shall be but two trumpets. Worn the same as above.

LIEUTENANT--FIRST CLASS
Same as prescribed for Captain, except that they shall be made of white metal. To be worn in the same manner.

LIEUTENANT--SECOND CLASS
Two trumpets placed perpendicularly, bells downward, made of white metal. Worn in the center on the front of the cap, and one on each end of the collar on the coat.

LIEUTENANT--THIRD CLASS.
One trumpet placed horizontally, made of white metal, worn on the front of the cap and on each end of the collar of the coat, bells to the center. On the cap the bell shall be to the left.

ENGINEERS, DRIVERS, TILLERMAN, HOSEMEN, AND LADDERMEN.
White metal Maltese cross badge with the initials L.A.F.D. and the Department number, to be worn on the front of the cap in the center and resting on the seam which encircles the cap about midway between the crown and visor.

REGULATION UNIFORM

FOR ALL OFFICERS.
Coat to be double-breasted, square cut, to button to the neck, with Prussian collar; seam in back 3/8 inch double stitched, no pockets outside, two inside cut crosswise. Cuffs of sleeves to be double stitched at a point from 3 1/2 to 5 inches from bottom of sleeve. Length of coat to be to the middle of first finger; hand-made eyelet holes for rank insignia on each end of collar, which should be directly in line with the rows of buttons. Buttons to be 5 inches from edge, the same distance from edge at both top and bottom.

BUTTONS ON OFFICERS' COATS.
Chief Engineer--Made of gilt metal, nine on each side, in groups of 3, and 5 on sleeve.

Assistance Chief Engineer--Made of gilt metal, 8 on each side, in groups of 2, and 5 on each sleeve.

Captains--Made of gilt metal, 7 on each side, equi-distant, and 4 on each sleeve.

Lieutenants--Made of white metal, 7 on each side, equi-distant, and 3 on each sleeve.

Engineers, Drivers, Tillermen, Hosemen and Laddermen--Coat to be single-breasted, square cut, buttoned to the neck with 7 buttons; to be finished raw edges, double stitched 3/8 inch; plain seams; also seams cut down center of back; Prussian collar, turned down to 2 1/3 inches deep in center of back and 2 3/8 inches deep at points in front; no pockets outside; two inside crossways. Cuffs of sleeves to be double-stitched at a point 3 1/2 inches from bottom of sleeve; 2 buttons facing inside turned in and single-stitched. Buttons to be of white metal. The length of the coat to be to the middle knuckle of the first finger.

Vests--Single-breasted, double-stitched; to be open no more than 14 inches from center of back; 7 buttons for officers and 6 for all others.

Trousers--Two top, two hip and one fob or watch pocket; width to be one inch smaller at bottom than at knee.

Shirt--For Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer and Secretary--To be made of linen or muslin, with white linen collar. For all others as follows--Made of non-shrinkable blue flannel; collar 4 1/2 inches deep at points, 2 1/2 inches at back when finished; 3 rows of stitching; collar band 1 inch in front and 2 inches in back. Breast piece to be shield-shaped 13 1/2 inches long and 5 1/2 inches wide; 9 buttons on shield, 3 open on right side; 3 rows of stitching; double yoke, 2 points, 3 rows of stitching; body and sleeves double-stitched; cuffs open 4 inches, long points, 7 1/2 inches, short points 6 inches, 3 buttons, 2 button holes, 3 rows of stitching; all silk sewed. Buttons to be first grade white pearl, 1 inch in diameter; for sleeves 1/2 inch diameter. Button-holes to be hand made.

Cravat--For Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer and Secretary, optional; for all others as follows--A narrow neck-tie or bow of black silk, not less than three-fourths of an inch in width, tied in a flat knot in front, the ends not to extend more than 3 inches from the knot.

Suspenders for Trousers--Plain black or dark blue; no fancy colors, figures or stripes.

Black Shoes; no tan or other fancy shoes.

Caps--Of regulation Fire Department pattern, 3 1/2 inches deep, with slightly bell-shaped sides and gilt cord for Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer and Captains; for all others, straight sides and leather chin straps, with leather sides fastened to the cap on each side by two small regulation L.A.F.D. buttons; two metal eyelets on each side of cap for ventilation.
